EARLY CHILDHOOD MATTERS

EARLY CHILDHOOD MATTERS, our 33rd PBS documentary, will pose the complex question of why some children become permanently impaired by early childhood deprivation and trauma while others are able to thrive. To help answer this question, we plan to dig into 40 years of our film archives to update some of the stories of the abused and neglected children we profiled decades ago. Viewers will be given a unique time-lapse perspective, witnessing how these troubled children evolved into the adults they are today. We'll then weave these narratives into a broader exploration of the latest developments in neurobiology, genetics, behavioral psychology, and social science so that viewers gain an insight into the devastating impact of early childhood adversity as well as the factors that can foster resilience.
